Milano Unica Unveils MU METAMORPHOSIS for Spring–Summer 2028 Textile Collections

The concept highlights lightness, craftsmanship and protection, outlining material, colour and design directions for the Spring–Summer 2028 season.
Milano Unica has introduced MU METAMORPHOSIS, the creative and strategic concept guiding textile and accessories collections for Spring–Summer 2028. The initiative explores changing approaches to everyday life, work, consumption and the environment, with an emphasis on adaptability, craftsmanship and long-term value.
The concept presents a vision of fashion in which materials, technologies and manufacturing techniques respond to changing lifestyles while retaining their cultural and product identity.
“The Milano Unica Sustainability Trends concept stems from our desire to provide the fashion industry with a practical tool for understanding and anticipating changes in fashion, society and the environment. Our role is to showcase the excellence of textile production and accessories, and to create content and services that guide businesses and industry professionals in their decision-making processes. In doing so, we foster dialogue between creativity, craftsmanship and innovation. MU METAMORPHOSIS embodies this ethos and translates it into a presentation of the Spring–Summer 2028 collections, offering a contemporary vision that remains deeply rooted in the product's cultural identity,” said Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica.
A Focus on Lightness, Enrichment and Adaptability
MU METAMORPHOSIS responds to changes in how consumers live, use products and assign value to them. The concept emphasises materials and products designed for comfort, versatility and longevity rather than seasonal excess.
«Change does not imply renouncing one’s identity, but rather evolving, as nature teaches us. The real challenge in fashion, as in life, is to evolve responsibly in order to create authentic, enduring value,» explained Stefano Fadda, Artistic Director of Milano Unica.
The concept identifies three guiding principles for fabrics and finishes:
- Lightness: Removing unnecessary material and conceptual elements to create lighter products.
- Enrichment: Emphasising craftsmanship, detailed finishing and texture.
- Adaptability: Developing flexible, timeless solutions for lifestyles that combine urban living, travel, outdoor activities, home life and hybrid working.
Materials are increasingly being designed for versatility across seasons. Wool, traditionally associated with colder weather, is also being developed in lighter forms through ultra-fine yarns, airy textures and lightweight constructions suited to summer wardrobes.
Three Directions for Spring–Summer 2028
Milano Unica has organised its Spring–Summer 2028 concept around three thematic pillars: LIGHTWEAR, HANDWEAR and TECHWEAR. Each explores a different approach to material development, textile construction, accessories and colour.
1. LIGHTWEAR: The Metamorphosis of Lightness
LIGHTWEAR focuses on freedom of movement, comfort and reduced material weight. Fabrics are designed to feel almost weightless, with fluid surfaces, carefully controlled transparency and constructions that move naturally with the body.
Materials: Lightweight wool and wool-silk blends, extra-light cotton and linen, open-weave matte silks, fluid crepes, viscose fabrics, semi-transparent organza, summer-weight cashmere, ultra-fine tropical wool, cotton mousseline and voile.
Processes and finishes: Soft-touch and peach-effect washes, controlled creasing, tone-on-tone layered transparencies, fluid micro-pleating and ultra-lightweight fil coupé.
Accessories: Matte-finish ultralight nylon zippers, mother-of-pearl, horn and transparent bioresin buttons, technical organza and lightweight washed-cotton tapes, alongside soft-touch labels with minimalist jacquard designs and ultra-thin motifs.
Colour palette: Mist Grey, Rosy Linen and Muted Sage are combined with brighter shades of Sunny Yellow, Aqua Green and Radiant Lilac. White completes the palette as a versatile colour.
2. HANDWEAR: The Metamorphosis of Craftsmanship
HANDWEAR places craftsmanship at the centre of contemporary luxury. Rather than relying on nostalgia, the direction focuses on how technical precision, surface treatments and decorative details can transform materials and enhance their character.
Materials: Lightweight handcrafted wools, compact cottons with raised embroidery, reworked denim and drill with handcrafted details, irregular jacquards, heavyweight woven and quilted fabrics, and knits featuring three-dimensional stitches.
Processes and finishes: Three-dimensional embroidery, raised effects, embossing, braiding, macramé, oversized decorative stitching, raw-edge finishes, patchwork, visible repair work and textured prints.
Accessories: Satin-finish metal zippers with handcrafted pull tabs and braided cords; buttons made from natural wood, corozo, ceramic or etched metal; cotton, grosgrain and embroidered tapes; and labels featuring micro-embroidery or fabric patches.
Colour palette: Ocean Blue and Purple are combined with Taupe and Wicker. Lavender and Clay provide softer contrasts, while Black anchors the palette and enhances the intensity of the other shades.
3. TECHWEAR: The Metamorphosis of Protection
TECHWEAR explores the integration of technology into everyday clothing through lightweight, unobtrusive and functional materials. The direction brings together outdoor activities, travel and remote working in a versatile wardrobe designed for comfort, mobility and protection from the elements.
Materials: Lightweight technical wool blends with protective finishes, active-wool textiles, nylon, ultra-light polyamide, resilient stretch fabrics, high-performance recycled polyesters, breathable membranes, UV-protective fabrics and soft-touch microfibres for indoor and outdoor use.
Processes and finishes: Subtle iridescent laminations, laser-cut and visible heat-sealed seams, reflective surfaces, functional micro-perforations and water-repellent coatings.
Accessories: Gel-coated zippers with matte or gunmetal finishes, lightweight magnetic press studs made from moulded TPU, technical micro-mesh, reflective and elastic tapes, and silicone heat-transfer labels with integrated QR codes.
Colour palette: Vermilion Red and Electric Green are paired with Melon and Iridescence, creating contrasts with Tobacco and Caramel. Deep Red adds a further strong accent to the palette.
Connecting Textile Innovation with Changing Lifestyles
Through MU METAMORPHOSIS, Milano Unica presents material and design directions that connect textile development with changing consumer needs. The three themes combine lightweight construction, detailed craftsmanship and functional technology, offering a framework for textile and accessories collections for Spring–Summer 2028.
