Milano Unica 43rd Edition to Present Gian Paolo Barbieri Exhibition at Fiera Milano Rho

'Gian Paolo Barbieri. The Radical Elegance' will be showcased from July 7–9, 2026, in collaboration with the Gian Paolo Barbieri ETS Foundation.

The 43rd edition of Milano Unica will feature the exhibition "Gian Paolo Barbieri. The Radical Elegance," organised in collaboration with the Gian Paolo Barbieri ETS Foundation. The exhibition will take place from July 7 to July 9, 2026, at Fiera Milano Rho.

Curated by Stefano Fadda and Antonella Matarrese, the exhibition presents three decades of Gian Paolo Barbieri's work, reflecting the vision of a photographer who contributed to the visual identity of international fashion from the 1960s onwards.

Recognised for his visual style, Gian Paolo Barbieri developed a body of work noted for formal composition and narrative imagery. His photographs documented the growth of Made in Italy on the international stage through collaborations with leading fashion houses and designers.

Throughout his career, Barbieri photographed fashion figures including Valentino Garavani, Giorgio Armani, Krizia, and Dolce & Gabbana, as well as personalities from cinema, culture and the performing arts such as Claudia Cardinale, Rudolf Nureyev, Christopher Lambert, and Ewan McGregor. His work documents changes in fashion, aesthetics and contemporary culture over several decades.

Milano Unica stated that the exhibition recognises Barbieri's contribution to the culture of excellence associated with Made in Italy textiles and accessories. The exhibition also highlights the relationship between culture, industry and innovation within the Italian fashion system.

The exhibition is organised into two sections. The first presents portraits created between the 1960s and the early 1990s, featuring figures from fashion and international culture. The second includes a selection of Barbieri's best-known photographs alongside display tables presenting Milano Unica's Fall-Winter 2027-2028 collections, creating a dialogue between textile research, creative development and artistic expression.

The initiative forms part of Milano Unica's cultural programme developed around its Tendenze, focusing on the relationship between manufacturing, creativity and cultural heritage. The exhibition also aligns with the theme of this edition, MU IS PUNK!, where punk is interpreted as an approach centred on independent thinking, experimentation and challenging conventions.

"Gian Paolo Barbieri. The Radical Elegance" will be displayed in the MU Tendenze Sostenibilità area in Hall 3 at Fiera Milano Rho from July 7, 8 and 9, 2026, with opening hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
