The Lenzing Group has introduced LENZING™ DualWipe, a cellulose-based, plastic-free wipe innovation. The product has been nominated for the INDEX™26 Awards in the “Nonwovens Roll Goods” category. The development reflects ongoing efforts to advance bio-based material solutions in Europe.

The Lenzing Group, a global producer of regenerated cellulose fibers for the textile and nonwovens industries, has launched LENZING™ DualWipe, a plastic-free wipe innovation nominated for the INDEX™26 Awards in the “Nonwovens Roll Goods” category. The nomination highlights the company’s focus on developing cellulose-based alternatives for applications traditionally dependent on fossil-based materials.

LENZING™ DualWipe is produced using Lenzing’s Nonwovens Technology and incorporates two functional surfaces within a single material. It features an abrasive side designed for removing dirt and residues, along with a soft, absorbent side for wiping and finishing. The product contains no synthetic fibers, binders, or finishing chemicals, eliminating the risk of plastic and microplastic shedding associated with conventional synthetic wipes. It is compatible with standard converting processes, enabling use across industrial, professional, and household cleaning applications.

The development aligns with discussions held during a roundtable in Brussels in early March, organized in cooperation with Euractiv. The meeting brought together policymakers, industry representatives, and experts to examine the role of bio-based materials in strengthening Europe’s economic resilience and supporting the transition to lower-carbon material systems. The discussions emphasized the role of cellulose-based innovations in enabling a more sustainable materials framework.

“Europe has set ambitious goals for industrial transformation. Our dialogue in Brussels showed that bio-based materials are becoming increasingly scalable. At Lenzing, we combine policy engagement with innovation to help enable this shift,” says Georg Kasperkovitz, Member of the Management Board of the Lenzing Group.

The INDEX™26 nomination reflects the translation of these discussions into product development. “The Brussels roundtable highlighted the relevance of cellulosic fibers in reducing reliance on fossil-based materials. With innovations like LENZING™ DualWipe, we translate this into practice by offering a high-performance, plastic-free wipe material designed to meet regulatory and consumer expectations,” emphasizes Patricia A. Sargeant, Executive Vice President Commercial Nonwovens at Lenzing Group.

The product represents an example of cellulose-based technology applied to nonwoven materials, with a focus on industrial applicability and alignment with sustainability-related policy objectives.
