Lenzing Unlocks Premium Recycled Fibers with TENCEL™

The Lenzing Group, a leader in regenerated cellulosic fibers, has introduced a breakthrough in sustainable textiles by partnering with four renowned Italian manufacturers — Marchi & Fildi S.p.A, Maglificio Maggia, Destro Fabrics, and Madiva — to improve the quality and consistency of mechanically recycled natural fibers using its TENCEL™ Lyocell technology.

Presented under the initiative to tackle one of fashion’s biggest circularity issues — quality inconsistency in recycled fibers, this collaboration transforms textile waste into premium, commercially viable fabrics without compromising softness, performance, or aesthetics.

Advanced Fiber Technology for Consistency & Softness

The new blends feature:

  • TENCEL™ Lyocell – LF & LFH: for softness and processing stability
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell – A100: for non-fibrillating performance and vibrant dye uptake

These fibers solve challenges posed by mechanically recycled cotton, wool, silk, and cashmere, enabling their use in knitting, weaving, and corespun applications.

Lenzing’s trial runs — combining TENCEL™ Lyocell (70% & 50%) with raw recycled cotton — resulted in compact knits with a final weight of 120 g/m² using fine-count yarns, demonstrating technical viability for upscale fabric production.


Circularity Without Compromise

This project proves that circular materials can deliver both performance and scale, with blends using 25%–50% recycled content while maintaining quality.

Made from wood-derived cellulose, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are known for their skin-friendliness and low environmental impact — aligning sustainability with consumer expectations for comfort and quality.

These innovations will be on display at Milano Unica, from July 8–10, 2025, at Fiera Milano, Hall 3, Booth A16.

The project marks a significant step in Lenzing’s mission to lead collaborative sustainability efforts across the textile value chain — proving that premium circular fashion is not only possible but scalable.
