LANXESS and Hindustan Colas Sign MoU to Evaluate Advanced Road Construction Technologies in India

The collaboration will focus on Polymer Modified Bitumen and Warm Mix Asphalt technologies, with joint trials to assess pavement performance, production efficiency and environmental impact.

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS and Hindustan Colas Private Limited (HINCOL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore advanced road construction technologies for India's infrastructure market. The agreement establishes a framework for evaluating technical, commercial and business opportunities in bitumen and asphalt modification.

The partnership will involve joint laboratory and commercial-scale trials of LANXESS Addipave® technologies, with a focus on improving pavement performance, production efficiency, operational safety and sustainability.

Joint Trials for Polymer Modified Bitumen Technology

Under the MoU, LANXESS India Private Limited and HINCOL will jointly evaluate Addipave® CR 36, LANXESS' cross-linking technology for Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) applications.

The companies will assess the technology's potential to improve PMB production efficiency, product consistency and quality, operational safety, and the performance of modified bitumen formulations.

LANXESS will provide the product, technical expertise and trial support. HINCOL will contribute testing facilities, operational assistance and performance assessments under local conditions.

Warm Mix Asphalt Technology Under Evaluation

The collaboration will also cover Addipave® WM 23, LANXESS' warm mix asphalt additive technology.

Through joint trials and market development initiatives, the companies intend to evaluate the technology's potential to lower asphalt production and paving temperatures while maintaining road performance standards.

Potential benefits include reduced energy consumption and emissions, improved workplace conditions, and greater sustainability throughout the paving process.

Focus on Road Performance and Operational Efficiency

The partnership combines LANXESS' expertise in specialty additives and formulation technologies with HINCOL's experience in bitumen technology, road construction solutions and infrastructure projects across India.

The companies aim to support the adoption of advanced pavement technologies while addressing the country's growing transportation infrastructure requirements.

Vince Patram, Global Head of Marketing, Business Unit Lubricant Additives, LANXESS, said, “With HINCOL’s local market insight, we aim to expand our foot print in India for asphalt application tailored to the requirements of the local market,”

Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Business Unit Lubricant Additives, LANXESS, said, "India's infrastructure sector continues to demand innovative solutions that improve road performance while supporting sustainability objectives. Through this collaboration with HINCOL, we look forward to demonstrating the value of our Addipave® technologies and working together to develop solutions that can help improve operational efficiency, quality and environmental performance in the road construction industry,"

Debashis Chakraverty, CEO and Director, HINCOL, said, "This collaboration brings together complementary expertise from both organizations. We are pleased to work with LANXESS in evaluating advanced technologies that have the potential to enhance pavement performance, improve sustainability and create long-term value for the Indian road construction industry,"
