Kolhapuri Chappals Take Center Stage at NIFT

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Daman campus brought together Kolhapuri artisans and their exceptional skills to showcase India's rich cultural heritage through traditional footwear. As part of the new batch orientation program, students were welcomed with a traditional Indian ceremony, complete with a bindi on their forehead and soothing classical music.

The event highlighted the significance of Kolhapuri Chappals, a traditional Indian footwear that has been passed down through generations. Originating in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, these chappals are renowned for their intricate craftsmanship, comfort, and durability. The Shahu Kolhapuri Chappal, named after the Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj, stood out with its stunning full-work designs adorned with small rings on both the upper and bottom parts.

The Director of Higher and Technical Education of Dadra Nagar Haveli daman and Diu was the chief guest. NIFT Director Dr. Brijesh Deore presided over the function. A special session, "Meet the Industrialist," allowed students to interact with leading textile industrialists and a workshop provided students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in crafting Kolhapuri footwear, while a dedicated customized Kolhapuri manufacturing stall attracted many visitors.

By bringing together artisans, students, and industry experts, the event showcased the beauty and significance of Kolhapuri Chappals, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
