Khadi & Upcycling 2026 to Highlight Sustainable Skills, Creativity and Entrepreneurship

Mumbai seminar and workshop will combine khadi, fabric upcycling, natural skincare and MSME opportunities on September 26

The Alumni Association of the College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan and Anveshanam Foundation will organise “Khadi & Upcycling 2026 – Seminar and Workshop” on Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Marie Adelaide de Cice College Hall, College of Home Science Nirmala Niketan, Churchgate, Mumbai.

The programme will bring together sessions on khadi, upcycling, natural skincare and entrepreneurship, combining traditional skills with practical activities and information on sustainable practices and small-business opportunities.

Fabric Waste to Be Turned into Jewellery

One of the workshop’s key activities will be a fabric jewellery-making demonstration. The session will show how pre-consumer fabric waste can be transformed into useful and attractive products through simple upcycling techniques.

Participants will also have the opportunity to create and take home one handmade fabric jewellery piece. The activity will demonstrate the potential of textile waste for value-added applications while highlighting circularity and responsible consumption.

Natural Skincare Session to Cover Lip Butter and Lipstick

The programme will also include a Natural Skin Care demonstration focused on preparing lip butter and lipstick using simple ingredients.

The session will introduce participants to approaches for making everyday personal-care products using accessible ingredients and simple preparation methods.

Khadi and MSME Opportunities in Focus

The seminar section will cover Khadi and MSME opportunities. The khadi session will include hands-on experience of hand spinning, alongside a discussion on the significance of khadi and its continuing relevance.

A separate session will provide information on MSME registration, government schemes, financial support and opportunities for starting or growing a small business.

Programme Targets Skills, Sustainability and Livelihood Opportunities

With sustainability, creativity and livelihood opportunities at its core, Khadi & Upcycling 2026 will explore how traditional skills and innovative practices can support responsible consumption, entrepreneurship and individual empowerment.

The programme is being curated by Dr. Ela Manoj Dedhia, Director, Anveshanam Foundation. Textile Jagat, Journal of Textile Association and Textile Value Chain are the media partners for the event.

The event is open to interested participants at a fee of ₹500 per person. It is intended for students, homemakers, professionals, educators, entrepreneurs and others interested in khadi, sustainable fashion, upcycling and natural products.
