Kasturi Cotton Bharat: Quality You Can Trace, Comfort You Can Feel

Tamil Nadu-based integrated manufacturer signs MoU with TEXPROCIL to use traceable Kasturi Cotton across its textile production chain

S.B.T. Apparels P. Ltd., a composite textile mill in Tamil Nadu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TEXPROCIL to produce 50,000 pieces of garments and made-ups using Kasturi Cotton.

The company manufactures products across the textile value chain, from yarn to knitted garments and made-ups. Through the Kasturi Cotton Bharat initiative, it plans to use cotton supplied under a defined quality protocol and carry its traceability through to finished products.

Focus on Cotton Quality and Traceability

India is the world's largest cotton producer, while the Kasturi Cotton Bharat initiative aims to establish a distinct brand identity for Indian cotton supported by a defined quality protocol.

The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Textiles with industry bodies including TEXPROCIL.

For S.B.T. Apparels, the use of Kasturi Cotton is linked to consistency in raw material quality, reduced contamination and traceability from cotton production to finished products.

Consistent Fibre Quality

Cotton supplied under a documented protocol can help reduce variation in fibre properties, supporting stable spinning performance and more consistent yarn.

According to the company, this can also contribute to improved results during knitting and dyeing.

Reduced Contamination

Careful picking, ginning and baling under the quality protocol are intended to reduce contamination risks.

For garments and made-ups, contamination can contribute to visible defects and product rejections, making cotton cleanliness an important consideration during manufacturing.

Fabric Comfort and Feel

The company said consistent fibre quality can contribute to soft, comfortable and uniform fabrics, which can influence the feel of finished textile products.

QR-Based Traceability

Finished garments under the initiative carry a TEXPROCIL-issued QR code on the tag. Buyers and consumers can scan the code to verify the cotton's journey from the farm to the finished product.

The traceability mechanism provides information intended to support transparency across the cotton and textile supply chain.

Integrated Manufacturing

As an integrated manufacturer, S.B.T. Apparels manages stages ranging from fibre to finished product. The company said this allows it to carry the quality characteristics associated with Kasturi Cotton across different stages of production.

The initiative also provides a framework for connecting cotton quality and traceability with finished garments and made-ups.

“Quality begins with the raw material, and Kasturi Cotton gives us a verifiable, high-quality fibre and gives our customers confidence in every piece they receive.”

The company said it intends to share its experience with the industry as it works to support the positioning of Indian cotton in global markets.
