Kankaria Group modernises Ambica Jute Mills, expands capacity and eco-friendly textile production across India.

The Kankaria Group is investing ₹150 crore over the next two years to expand and modernise its jute and textile operations, enhancing sustainability and production capacity in India.

The Kankaria Group has announced a major expansion plan to increase production capacity across its jute and textile divisions, backed by an investment of ₹150 crore over the next two years, according to a report by Sarthak Ganguly. A large share of this investment will go toward modernising Ambica Jute Mills in Belur, Howrah, with additional plans to set up new jute mills in West Bengal.

Explaining the expansion strategy, Abhishek Kankaria, Group Director, stated, “The Belur jute mill functions as an integrated production hub managing the complete fabric-making process — from raw jute processing to spinning, weaving, dyeing, and printing. In the first phase, we aim to raise the mill’s capacity from the current 150 MT to 180 MT, followed by a further increase to 210 MT in the second phase.”

Kankaria further noted, “All our jute mills — Ludlow, Bally, and Kelvin Jute Mills — have enhanced their production capacities by 30%. At Ambica Jute Mills and its affiliate Bally Fabs International, we maintain a strong commitment to developing eco-friendly and sustainable products.”

In addition to these upgrades, the group is also expanding its Uluberia linen plant and will set up a new textile manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh, further strengthening its footprint in India’s textile sector.
