Jaipur Rugs presents FACES, a new rug collection unveiled at Salone del Mobile 2026, reinterpreting the architectural philosophy of Kengo Kuma into tactile expressions for contemporary interiors. The collection explores fragments, textures, and the subtle “faces” of architecture, transforming them into immersive, handcrafted surfaces.
Instead of replicating physical structures, FACES focuses on intangible architectural qualities—how light moves, how materials interact, and how space is experienced over time. These fleeting and atmospheric elements are translated through Jaipur Rugs’ craftsmanship into textiles that feel intuitive, sensory, and deeply connected to living spaces.
"With FACES, we are not translating architecture into rugs—we are translating a way of seeing. Kengo Kuma’s work is deeply emotional yet restrained, and through our artisans, we’ve reinterpreted that sensitivity into something tactile, human, and lived-in," says Yogesh Chaudhary, MD, Jaipur Rugs.
Architectural Concepts Interpreted Through Craft
Each piece in the collection is inspired by a distinct architectural idea and material expression:
SUKIMA-6 Rugs

Rooted in the Japanese concept of “Sukima,” which highlights the space between elements, this design takes inspiration from the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo. Its composition reflects Musō-gōshi lattice structures, creating delicate linear rhythms where light and shadow merge to form atmosphere rather than structure.
BOKASHI-1 Rug

Drawing from the traditional “Bokashi” technique, this rug features soft gradations and fluid tonal transitions. Inspired by layered lighting conditions, it captures the gentle diffusion of light across surfaces through a seamless blend of color and texture.
CHIRASHI-1 Rug

Influenced by the Museum of Kanayama Castle Ruin and the Kanayama Community Center, this design explores the scattering of elements to create rhythm and motion. Solid architectural references are reimagined into a surface that feels balanced, warm, and fluid.
KIGUMI-5 Rugs

Inspired by the Japanese joinery system “Kigumi” and the GC Prostho Museum Research Center, this design translates interlocking wooden grid structures into intricate woven patterns. The result is a textile that expresses shifting depth and evolving spatial perception.
KASANE-3 Rugs

Based on the idea of layering, “Kasane” draws influence from the Albert Kahn Museum. Through subtle tonal layering and refined detailing, the design evokes continuity between interior and natural environments, creating a sense of depth and harmony.
A Fusion of Minimalism and Craftsmanship
With FACES, Jaipur Rugs elevates the rug beyond decoration, positioning it as a medium that interacts with architecture, light, and human experience. The collection brings together Japanese minimalism and Indian artisanal heritage, united by a shared emphasis on craftsmanship, material authenticity, and spatial sensitivity.
"Presenting FACES at Salone 2026 is significant for us. It is not just a collection, but a statement on how Indian craftsmanship can engage with global design narratives at the highest level," adds Chaudhary.
A Collection Focused on Experience
Designed for architects, interior designers, and collectors, FACES emphasizes subtlety and depth rather than bold expression. The collection invites engagement through experience, where meaning unfolds gradually, offering a refined and immersive interaction with space.
