ITAMMA Hosts Innovation & MMF Events in Coimbatore

At ITAMMA’s board meeting in Coimbatore, Mr. Omprakash Mantry, President of ITAMMA, welcomed Dr. B. Vinod, Head of Robotics and Automation at PSG College of Technology, as a Special Invitee. Mr. Mantry stated, "we are fortunate to have you with us as a right person at right time, when the World is moving towards digitalization, robotics and automation." Dr. Vinod shared insights into his R&D work on humanoid, underwater, and mobile robots for nuclear waste handling, along with his collaborations with companies like Heidenhain, Fanuc, and Siemens. He is recognized by IEEE USA for his leadership in the Robotics and Automation Society.

A seminar titled “Trends of Man-Made Textiles and the Preparations for Stakeholders involved in Manufacturing and Trading of Textile Machines and Accessories” followed. Mr. N D Mhatre, Director General (Tech), ITAMMA, emphasized the growing global shift to man-made fibres (MMF) and the need for machinery to adapt accordingly. Mr. Mantry added, "MMF dominates global textile fibre consumption with 72:28 ratio… global end-use demand is expected to increase by 3.7% in 2025."

Chief Guest Dr. S.K. Sundararaman, Chairman of SIMA and ITTA, highlighted the dominance of MMF in global markets and stressed the need for government support to price MMF at international levels to boost production and exports. Guest speaker Mr. Suryadeb Mukherjee from Gherzi Consulting emphasized that MMF is reshaping the textile industry and underlined the need for eco-friendly practices, better processing technology, and strong R&D.

The 4th edition of the “B.K. Mehta Technology Networking Mission-2030” was held in association with BK Mehta Endowment Fund. Mr. Mhatre spoke about the initiative’s goals to connect academia, industry, and government for innovation and project support. Mr. Mantry emphasized, "The Technology Development activities never ends or should not end… it helps in making the Entrepreneur self-sustained in the Challenging Global Market."

Industry experts like Dr. P. Alli Rani (SVPISTM) and Dr. Prakash Vasudevan (SITRA) called for greater research funding and domestic alternatives to imported machinery. Student teams from various institutes presented sustainable and tech-driven projects, such as eco-friendly sanitary pads, self-healing composites, AI tools, and agro-textiles. ITAMMA also signed an MoU with SVPISTM to support technical textile innovations.

The event concluded with a visit to Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd (LMW) where Mr. Mantry highlighted ITAMMA’s efforts in organizing such industrial visits to strengthen industry exposure and learning. The delegation appreciated LMW's leadership in providing complete spinning solutions and promoting best practices.
