ISH 2027 to Spotlight Energy-Efficient Housing and Building Solutions

Frankfurt trade fair to focus on HVAC, water systems and residential construction trends from 15–19 March 2027

ISH 2027, the world's leading trade fair for HVAC and water, will take place in Frankfurt am Main from 15 to 19 March 2027, presenting technologies and integrated building solutions for residential construction, energy efficiency and building modernisation.

The event will examine how evolving housing requirements, increasing energy efficiency standards and the growing importance of refurbishing existing buildings are influencing planning and construction across Germany and Europe.

Residential Construction Market Shows Signs of Recovery

According to Euroconstruct, the European construction industry is expected to return to growth from 2026 following recent declines. Residential construction is projected to recover gradually, with further momentum anticipated by 2028.

The report also indicates that modernisation, energy-efficient refurbishment and the adaptation of existing buildings are becoming increasingly significant, shifting attention from new construction towards the sustainable development of existing housing stock.

The changing market is increasing demand for buildings that combine energy efficiency, lower operating costs, flexibility and long-term usability, while age-appropriate housing is becoming an important consideration in residential planning.

Changing Requirements for Residential Buildings

According to the organisers, residential construction increasingly requires integrated approaches that address comfort, energy consumption and water use simultaneously.

Implementation is further influenced by rising construction costs, labour shortages and refurbishment projects undertaken while buildings remain occupied, creating demand for solutions that are cost-effective and reliable over the long term.

Solution Areas at ISH 2027

ISH 2027 will feature dedicated solution areas addressing different aspects of residential construction and building technology.

Bathroom

The Bathroom section will present concepts designed for functional and flexible living spaces, including compact bathroom layouts, accessible bathroom solutions, fittings and installation systems suitable for residential developments.

Water-bearing Systems

This area will focus on hygienic drinking water installations, heating circuits, drainage systems and rainwater harvesting technologies aimed at improving resource efficiency while maintaining safety standards for residential buildings.

Heat Generation

Visitors will be able to explore heating technologies including heat pumps, hybrid systems and renewable energy integration designed for both new residential developments and existing buildings.

Indoor Air

The Indoor Air section will present ventilation concepts intended to support healthy indoor environments, particularly in energy-efficient buildings where controlled ventilation plays an increasingly important role.

Installation

Installation solutions will highlight prefabricated components, modern installation methods and optimised workflows intended to improve efficiency during construction and refurbishment projects for HVAC and plumbing professionals.

Technical Programme

Alongside the exhibition, ISH 2027 will host specialist presentations, conferences and expert forums covering topics including:

  • Energy-efficient building services
  • Sustainable water management
  • Modern interior concepts
  • Refurbishment of existing buildings
  • Decarbonisation of heating systems
  • Long-term residential housing concepts focused on comfort and sustainability
