Inthing Expands its Presence into Global Markets

68-year-old fashion and apparel business builds on manufacturing, supply-chain and distribution capabilities to pursue international growth

Inthing, a homegrown fashion and apparel company with roots dating back to 1958, is preparing to expand its presence into global markets. The move marks a new phase for the multi-generational business, which has evolved from fabric trading and textile manufacturing into an integrated fashion and apparel enterprise.

With the third generation taking a more active role, the company plans to build on its manufacturing experience, supply-chain capabilities and distribution network to establish a wider international footprint.

Hub-and-Spoke Manufacturing Model Supports Expansion

A key part of Inthing’s scale-up strategy is the consolidation of its production network into a hub-and-spoke structure. The company operates three Master Units as central manufacturing hubs, supported by nine smaller manufacturing units.

The structure is intended to improve coordination and create a more integrated production ecosystem as the company scales its operations.

Inthing’s international expansion is being developed around its existing manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities rather than as a standalone export initiative. The company aims to use its production scale, industry experience and established ecosystem as the foundation for its global growth.

From Fabric Trading to Fashion and Apparel

Inthing’s journey began nearly seven decades ago with fabric trading. The company has since moved through several stages of development, progressing from trading to manufacturing, manufacturing to fashion branding, and from a strong domestic presence towards international ambitions.

The business traces its origins to 1958, when B.K. Maheshwari and Ramesh Arora began their entrepreneurial journey in fabric trading. Over time, the company moved towards backward integration, developing capabilities across yarn, fabric and garment manufacturing.

The next phase involved Manmohan Bhutra and Amit Arora, who explored opportunities in fabric exports and garment retail before developing a consumer-facing fashion brand.

Third-Generation Leadership Drives the Next Phase

Akshat Bhutra, the third generation of the family business and son of Manmohan Bhutra, is driving the company’s next phase of development.

His entry into the business has been accompanied by a focus on manufacturing consolidation, operational efficiency, scalability and preparing Inthing for opportunities beyond the Indian market.

The company currently has a manufacturing ecosystem supported by approximately 1,500 employees and an annual production capacity of around 18 lakh garments.

Its manufacturing infrastructure includes three Master Units covering approximately 1.5 lakh sq. ft., connected to nine smaller manufacturing units through an integrated hub-and-spoke model.

Extensive Domestic Distribution Network

Inthing’s manufacturing capabilities are supported by a domestic distribution network comprising 200+ wholesalers and more than 10,000 retailers.

The network extends across approximately 300 cities in 25 states and six Union Territories, providing the company with an established domestic market presence.

As Inthing completes 68 years, its next-generation leadership is positioning the company for a new phase of expansion, with its existing manufacturing infrastructure, distribution network and operational capabilities forming the base for its international ambitions.
