In an interview at Bharat Tex 2024, the TVC Media Team had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Bhadresh Dodhia, Co-Chairman of Bharat Tex.

Tell us about your experience as the organizer of this event. What were your challenges & opportunities in this Bharat Tex exhibition?

Bharat Tex has been a resounding success!  Exhibitor and buyer response has been overwhelmingly positive. From the beginning, the goal was to unite the entire Indian textile industry under one roof.  We’re happy to report that we’ve achieved this objective, showcasing the strength of the Indian textile sector to the world. This is a movement that will propel India to even greater heights. The success of this event is undeniable, and we look forward to incorporating even more enhancements in the future.

Will this be an annual show?

Traditionally, Bharat Tex has been an annual event. The organizers will announce the dates for the next edition soon. Tentatively, the next Bharat Tex is expected to take place in March 2025.

What challenges have you faced in your entire journey?

Organizing this massive event in a short timeframe was no easy feat. We faced several hurdles:

  • Overcoming Scepticism: There were doubts about pulling off such a large-scale event in a limited time.
  • Unifying a Diverse Group: Seven different organizations, unfamiliar with collaborating, needed to come together and work seamlessly.
  • Time Constraints: Everything from securing funding and exhibitors to attracting visitors had to be done under tight deadlines.

Thankfully, with the Ministry of Textiles’ support and everyone’s focused efforts, we managed to overcome these challenges and achieve this remarkable outcome in such a short period.

What will be the outcome you are expecting from the discussion, round table & conferences?

This event successfully brought together the entire textile community. The sessions were designed with a focus on the future of textiles. We aimed for every entrepreneur to attend, listen, and gain valuable insights into where the industry is headed.

We hope these sessions enlightened all visitors and expanded their textile knowledge. Additionally, a dedicated section showcased technical textiles.  While awareness in this area is not yet widespread, this exhibition provided a platform for textile entrepreneurs to explore the potential of technical textiles and understand why India is poised to thrive in this sector in the future.

What was the minister’s vision? Is it accomplished?

He truly accomplished a great deal.  His vision was incredibly clear: why limit ourselves to small, siloed events around the world, begging for sales? It’s time to think much bigger and create a massive textile exhibition so grand that the world would clamour to attend it in India.  His vision was the sole driving force behind this initially impossible task.  For us, as visitors, it was a sceptical idea at first, but his unwavering conviction helped us see its potential and ultimately pulled it off.

How many exhibitors and visitors are present in this exhibition?

There are over 2,000 exhibitors at the exhibition, which is being held at Yashobhumi and Bharat Mandapam. Even more exhibitors are expected to join as the event continues!  With 75,000 visitors already and two days to go, the exhibitor and visitor numbers are sure to keep growing.

Whatever the round table has discussed, will any policy decisions be taken?

The government assures that policy decisions for the textile industry aren’t made unilaterally. They consider all angles (360 degrees) before finalizing anything. The Minister has listened to industry concerns and will consult with all relevant parties before making a decision. We can expect well-rounded policies to address the problems faced by the textile industry soon.

How many foreign visitors have come?

Bharat Tex has already surpassed 3,000 foreign visitors! This includes both hosted buyers and direct visitors who came independently. There’s a lot of excitement for the event, attracting visitors like one customer who flew in for just a few hours to see it for himself. The final count of foreign buyers is still being calculated.

Will there be international visitors in the next edition?

Absolutely, the next edition will be a massive undertaking on an international scale. Putting this show together in just four months was a challenge, but the buzz around it has been incredible throughout the textile community. We can look forward to a truly international flavour at the next event!
