According to V Arun Roy, Secretary-MSME Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (SIDCO) would shortly deploy plug-and-play infrastructure for MSMEs in Chennai totaling roughly 2.8 lakh square feet.
“The Tamil Nadu government is a pioneer in the development of numerous infrastructure projects, such as industrial parks. Additionally, the State is putting plug-and-play infrastructure in place for MSMEs. Two plug-and-play facilities for MSMEs will be opened by SIDCO, one each in Ambattur and Guindy. They are anticipated to open in June of this year, Roy told Businessline on the sidelines of the “India Manufacturers and SME Summit,” which was hosted by the Federation of Indian SME Associations, the SME Chamber of India, and the SME Export Promotion Council.
A 1.31 lakh On a 1.6-acre site, a plug-and-play unit will be constructed. The four-story building will provide MSMEs with a total of 107,936 square feet of saleable space. A 1.48 lakh square foot plug-and-play facility with six stories and a total area of 24,695 square feet will be built at Guindy Industrial Estate on a 1.27 acre land.
In order for the MSMEs to advance, Roy urged them to take use of the infrastructural and financial support offered by the state government. “Tamil Nadu is presumably the State that offers the MSME sector the greatest subsidy amount. Our MSMEs receive roughly 550 crore in annual subsidies. Yet applications in fields like quality are scarce. Industry alliances for SMEs could aid in this to raise awareness and utilise the assistance,” he continued. He also expressed concern about MSMEs’ underwhelming support for formalisation. Registration is essential whether you’re applying for a government grant, subsidy, or credit. In Tamil Nadu, just 15–25% of MSMEs have signed up on the Udayam platform. This necessitates a tremendous push by microenterprises to register through education and awareness campaigns. Governments and SME organisations can collaborate to hasten this process.
When it comes to attaining Tamil Nadu’s goal of having a $1 trillion state economy by 2030, the industrial sector will be essential. MSMEs might so continue to expand and invest in the state.
