Lalit Vashista, CEO and founder of Diva Envitec shared the company’s growth strategies in the textile market in a conversation with TVC MEDIA TEAM.

Tell me about your technology and products you are doing and about your company. What are the solutions you are providing?

Diva Envitec boasts an impressive legacy of 35 years immersed in the filtration and separation sciences. Recently, we underwent a transformative evolution, dividing our profound expertise into two distinct entities. Diva Envitec Pvt Ltd now exclusively focuses on pioneering water treatment solutions, while Diva Filtec Pvt Ltd continues its dedicated efforts in mainstream filtration and separation endeavors.

At Diva Envitec, our paramount concentration revolves around wastewater treatment, a crucial service offered to a spectrum of industries. Introducing groundbreaking technologies, we address the ever-pressing global challenge of water scarcity. This urgency amplifies in the face of rapid global industrial expansion and the critical necessity to align with sustainability objectives.

The world is grappling with a severe water crisis, compounded by ambitious goals, such as achieving a carbon-zero economy by 2070, outlined by global initiatives. It’s evident that conventional methods may fall short in meeting these objectives. Therefore, we actively explore and implement unconventional methods to adapt to the evolving landscape’s demands. Our aim is to contribute innovative solutions that harmonize with sustainability goals and propagate environmentally conscious practices across industries worldwide.

Our commitment to indigenous development and innovation aligns seamlessly with the vision put forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. As a 100% indigenous company, we’ve been at the forefront of technology development.

Our journey commenced through extensive international travel, engaging in global fairs and observing the ever-evolving world. Our product line showcases remarkable innovations like the NANOMATRIX, a sustainable alternative to traditional sand filters, and THERMOX for treating refractory and Toxic COD and ZEPHYR, our game-changing chemical-free cooling tower system. Consider this: a water chemicals company Rs 250 crores for cooling tower water treatment. We are  challenging that norm by offering a chemical-free solution, promising significant savings and efficiency.

Delving deeper, we’re engaged in applications such as toxic COD removal from chemical and textile effluents, desalting, and color removal, washing using new PORESEP reducing wash water quwantity. Specialised membranes resistant to biological choking and fouling highlight our commitment to the textile industry. Most of our engineered systems are  developed here in India.

Indigenous development and innovation are embedded in our DNA, driving our pledge to continually innovate for the Indian industry. We strive to offer cutting-edge solutions and foster sustainability within our nation’s borders.

How are you doing in the textile industry?

Our primary focus revolved around salt removal, desalting applications, and addressing colour removal from effluents. We’ve developed a range of technologies specifically tailored for colour removal. For instance, we have the THERMOX thermal oxidation solution, along with the  COD and colour removal membranes, specifically in the Nanofiltration range, catering to precise textile industry needs. Additionally, we utilize resin technology to effectively absorb ionic and charged colours, offering a comprehensive solution tailor-made for the textile industry.

What are the Indian and international markets that you serve?

We’re enthusiastic about contributing to the Indian market, although presently, our main focus lies in the Middle Eastern regions. Our ongoing projects in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi showcase our commitment to that market. Additionally, we’ve completed significant projects, including two extensive ETV plants in Zimbabwe, marking our footprint in Africa. However, our emphasis on India remains strong. Yet, it’s notable that Indian companies often lack an appetite for embracing innovation. When we introduce innovative products here, the prevailing question is about our prior supply history. Innovation, by its nature, implies uniqueness and newness. Hence, industries need to be more open to embracing innovation without prior supply precedents. We’ve found more receptivity abroad, especially in the Middle East, where our innovations are welcomed and compared favourably against our European counterparts. Being cost-competitive compared to European offerings has enhanced our acceptance in international markets, making them more receptive to our innovations compared to the domestic market.

Any other innovations you are planning? Do you have an R&D centre?

We operate a comprehensive R&D Centre where we execute end-to-end processes from conceptualisation to proof of concept. Collaborating closely with industries, we address their challenges by conducting various tests and analyses based on the process fluid or wastewater samples they provide. Recently, we secured an international PCT patent, assigned from Germany, This is for a specific filter design application. It’s a significant milestone where I served as the primary inventor in partnership with Mr Sanjeev Rai of INEOS  Germany. Currently, we’re in the process of applying for three more patents for our products, focusing primarily on securing Indian patents due to cost constraints related to international patent filings. Despite these limitations, we’re garnering recognition from international entities. The future looks promising, and we’re eagerly watching how developments unfold.

Tell us More about Diva Envitec…

We aren’t a new entrant; we’ve been a boutique firm, pioneering novel concepts for years. Our core focus was filtration and separation sciences until last year when we transitioned entirely into water-based solutions due to our extensive work in that domain. Pardon me for being repetitive, but our latest innovations will really serve the textile industry. We’ve launched three groundbreaking products. Firstly, DISORB an oily water separator tailored for treating Produced water and other industrial oily waters. Secondly, THERMOX, is designed for handling challenging water streams like spent caustic in refineries and textiles. Lastly, we’ve developed a sand filter replacement, NANOMATRIX enabling plants to boost their capacity without significant capital investment by simply substituting our specific media. This innovation has been a game-changer for the industry, providing a host of new solutions and opportunities.
