In a statement on the ongoing India–UK Free Trade Agreement negotiations, Dr. Mukesh Kansal, Chairman of CTA Apparels, described the proposed FTA as a landmark initiative poised to redefine global trade frameworks.

“The India–UK Free Trade Agreement stands as a landmark initiative in shaping a more dynamic and equitable global trade architecture,” said Dr. Kansal. He noted that Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal’s recent visit to London and his strategic engagements with British leadership underscore India’s firm commitment to strengthening its global economic presence, particularly in labour-intensive and high-growth sectors.

Dr. Kansal emphasized that the agreement aims not only to reduce tariffs but also to foster a progressive partnership anchored in shared prosperity, trust, and innovation. He welcomed the planned elimination of duties on major Indian exports such as apparel, leather, and footwear, along with improved access for UK goods in the Indian market.

“The removal of duties on key Indian exports such as apparel, leather, and footwear, alongside smoother access to UK products, lays the foundation for a more balanced and mutually enriching trade relationship,” he stated.

Dr. Kansal also endorsed the bilateral trade target of USD 120 billion by 2030, calling it a “compelling vision” that can boost employment, attract investments, and enhance industrial competitiveness in both nations.

“This is a defining moment, and it deserves the collective resolve of industry, policymakers, and global stakeholders to translate intent into transformative outcomes,” he concluded.
