India’s Apparel Exports Rise 10% in FY25, Leads Sector Growth

India’s textile and apparel exports have recorded a healthy 6.32% growth during the financial year ending March 31, 2025, as per the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI). Notably, it was the apparel segment that led this rise, showcasing a double-digit growth of 10.03%, while textiles grew moderately at 3.61%.
CITI Chairman Rakesh Mehra attributed this robust performance to strategic government policies and the growing strength of India’s global trade partnerships. He emphasized that the Indian textile and apparel sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability amid persistent global challenges.
Mehra also highlighted that the ongoing trade friction between the US and China has opened up avenues for India to strengthen its position as a key supplier to the US market. He stressed the need for proactive trade negotiations and consistent tariff policies to make the most of this opportunity.
On a monthly basis, March 2025 saw a 5.81% decline in textile exports compared to March 2024. However, apparel exports showed a 3.97% year-on-year rise. Overall, this export performance outpaced India’s total merchandise exports, which remained relatively flat during the same timeframe, reflecting the sector's increasing global competitiveness.
