India–Canada Business Ties: Mumbai’s World Trade Center Signs Two MoUs to Strengthen Trade and Investment

Agreements with World Trade Centre Winnipeg and the Alberta–India Chamber of Commerce aim to expand business cooperation, cross-border investment and institutional partnerships between India and Canada.

India and Canada are looking to strengthen economic cooperation beyond trade through deeper institutional ties, investment and long-term business partnerships. During an interaction with a high-level Canadian delegation at MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai, two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to promote bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation.

The interaction took place as part of the Team Canada Trade Mission, comprising nearly 300 delegates and recognised as Canada's largest trade delegation to India in over three decades.

Manitoba Highlights Opportunities for India Partnerships

Hon. Mintu Sandhu, Minister of Public Service Delivery, Government of Manitoba, Canada, said:

“It is a great pleasure to return to India, a country with which I share a deep personal connection, having migrated to Canada. Manitoba offers significant economic opportunities across various sectors, and the Indian community has made valuable contributions to the province’s growth and development. There is immense potential to strengthen grassroots business relationships and build meaningful partnerships between India and Manitoba. By bringing together our respective strengths, expertise and business capabilities, we can create new opportunities for trade, investment and collaboration that will contribute to the economic prosperity of both regions,”

Hon. Jamie Moses, Minister of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation, Government of Manitoba, Canada, said:

“It is encouraging to see the growing relationship between World Trade Center Mumbai and World Trade Centre Winnipeg, which reflects the strong potential for greater economic cooperation between Manitoba and India. During my visit to Mumbai, I have witnessed the city's vibrant business environment and the tremendous opportunities it offers for trade and investment. Successful international business partnerships are built not only on economic opportunities but also on trust, mutual understanding and long-lasting relationships. Ultimately, meaningful business collaborations are driven by people working together towards shared goals. I am confident that strengthening these partnerships will create new avenues for trade, investment and business growth, contributing to the economic prosperity of both Manitoba and Mumbai,”

India–Canada Trade and Investment Potential

Welcoming the Canadian delegation, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai and President, All India Association of Industries (AIAI), said:

“India and Canada share immense untapped potential for expanding bilateral trade and investment. With bilateral trade in goods and services reaching approximately CAD 30.4 billion in 2025, renewed diplomatic engagement and progress towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) could pave the way for substantially higher trade by 2030. Sectors such as technology, artificial intelligence, agritech, advanced manufacturing and clean energy offer significant opportunities for collaboration. Stronger MSME partnerships and institutional cooperation will be crucial in translating these opportunities into tangible business outcomes.”

Alberta–India Cooperation in Technology and Clean Energy

Mr. Anupam Srivastav, President, Alberta–India Chamber of Commerce, said:

“India and Alberta have tremendous potential to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in innovation, technology, artificial intelligence and clean energy. The strong presence of the Indian-origin community in Alberta provides a valuable foundation for expanding business and cultural ties. By fostering stronger institutional partnerships, encouraging technology exchange and facilitating greater investment, we can unlock new opportunities for businesses and build a robust India–Alberta economic corridor that supports sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.”

Two MoUs to Support Business Cooperation

MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai signed two Memoranda of Understanding with World Trade Centre Winnipeg and the Alberta–India Chamber of Commerce. The agreements aim to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation between India and Canada.

The agreements were signed during the interaction with the high-level Manitoba delegation, bringing together senior government representatives, trade promotion organisations and industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for closer economic engagement.

The programme concluded with discussions on promoting business-to-business partnerships, facilitating cross-border investment and strengthening institutional cooperation to develop new opportunities within the India–Canada economic relationship.
