INDA Honors Former President Rory Holmes, Remembering His Legacy with Gratitude

Rory Holmes served as president of INDA from 2004 until his retirement in 2013, concluding a career spanning four decades in the nonwovens and engineered fabrics industry. Prior to joining INDA, he held leadership positions across operations, research, technology, sales, and marketing at Johnson & Johnson, Chicopee/PGI Nonwovens, and the Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center, now known as The Nonwovens Institute.

Holmes was noted for his professional work as well as his engagement with colleagues and industry members. He was described as approachable and supportive in professional interactions.

“Although I did not have the privilege of knowing Rory personally, his impact is still very much felt today,” said INDA President & CEO Tony Fragnito. “I continue to hear from members and colleagues who speak highly of his leadership, his generosity, and the lasting mark he left on INDA and the industry. He clearly meant a great deal to many people, and he left his mark on the industry through his deep commitment to leadership and his lasting impact on INDA.”

In 2013, Holmes received the INDA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his technical and industry contributions. During his tenure, he led initiatives that included the introduction of new events, expansion of corporate membership, revenue growth, and enhancements to services, research, and communications within the association.

Holmes was born in Omaha and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Outside his professional career, he participated in activities such as golf, fishing, and other sports, and maintained professional relationships across the industry.

INDA represents companies in the nonwovens and engineered fabrics sector and has been active since 1968. The association provides industry support through events, professional development, market data, testing methods, consulting, and advocacy.

INDA Media, the organization’s publishing division, produces the International Fiber Journal and International Filtration News, which serve professionals working with fibers, filaments, and filtration systems.
