The International Organic Accreditation Service, the Global Organic Textile Standard, and Textile Exchange have been urged by the Tamilnadu Spinning Mills Association (TASMA) to accept organic cotton or textile products made by its members and certified by Control Union (CU) India before its suspension from certification activities on March 3.
Following the IOAS’s suspension of CU India’s accreditation to test and sample Indian organic textile products due to alleged anomalies in its certification process, TASMA filed their petition. Businessline stated on March 5 that CU India’s accreditation has been revoked due to allegations of anomalies in the certification procedure.
According to certificates granted by CU India, TASMA, an association of mills that spin cotton into yarn, some of its member mills have sourced organic cotton. They already had started using their mills to process the cotton and sending organic cotton yarn to other members. with inspection fees, TASMA member mills had paid for each TC from CU India. As a result, the association said that the suspension of its accreditation will have an impact on all mill activities.
It declared that its members will now look for a new certification organisation to buy organic cotton from and obtain certification for organic textiles.
