NEW DELHI: According to a report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific (UNESCAP), India is now outperforming all other South Asian nations in terms of trade facilitation.

According to the Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation, India’s score increased from the survey conducted in 2021.

With an amazing score of 93.55 percent in 2023 compared to 90.32 percent in 2021, India is now at the forefront of international trade facilitation efforts, according to the 2023 survey, which evaluated 60 trade facilitation metrics across more than 140 economies.

India received a flawless score of 100 percent in four important categories—transparency, formalities, institutional arrangement and cooperation, and paperless trade—in the 2023 survey, which noted the nation’s extraordinary development across many sub-indicators.

With programmes like Turant Customs, Single Window Interface for Facilitation of Trade (SWIFT), Pre-Arrival data processing, e-Sanchit, Coordinated Border Management, etc., India has made remarkable strides in streamlining trade procedures, increasing transparency, and encouraging cooperation among stakeholders.

India’s score for the ‘Women in Trade Facilitation’ component increased significantly, rising from 66.7 percent in 2021 to 77.8 percent in 2023, demonstrating a commitment to gender inclusion and the empowerment of women in the trade sector.
