Vedanta Jaipur Literature Festival 2025 Begins with a Grand Celebration of Books, Music, and Ideas
Recognized as the world’s grandest celebration of books and ideas, the Vedanta Jaipur Literature Festival 2025, in association with Maruti Suzuki and powered by Vida, commenced with an inspiring inaugural ceremony. The festival opened with a serene Ganesh Vandana by classical vocalist Supriya Nagarajan, accompanied by the resonant beats of nagadas performed by Nathoolal Solanki’s group, setting a vibrant tone for the days ahead.
Day 1 Highlights
The 18th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival was officially inaugurated at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur, blending music, thought-provoking discussions, and the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The morning began with a soul-stirring performance by Carnatic vocalist Supriya Nagarajan. Festival Co-Directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple highlighted the festival’s diverse lineup, while Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, reflected on its 18-year journey. The keynote address was delivered by Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan, who explored the fascinating intersection of arts and sciences. The opening concluded with a moment of silence in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi.
Powerful Conversations and Notable Speakers
The festival’s first day featured an exceptional lineup of speakers, including Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo, Kailash Satyarthi, Gideon Levi, William Dalrymple, Ijeoma Oluo, Geetanjali Shree, Javed Akhtar, and Venki Ramakrishnan. The sessions spanned a range of topics, from Democracy and Equality, Geopolitics, Biographies, History, and Culture, offering a diverse mix of discussions for attendees.
Festival Co-Director Namita Gokhale described JLF as “a pilgrimage of thought and mindfulness, a hub for words and the search for meaning.”
William Dalrymple emphasized the festival’s role in celebrating the performance of literature, which has been a deeply rooted tradition in India.
Sanjoy K. Roy underscored the importance of literature in today’s world, stating that “in times of conflict and darkness, books remain a source of solace and understanding.”
