On Monday in Ottawa, the sixth Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) between India and Canada will be co-chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Mary Ng, Canada’s minister of foreign trade, export promotion, small business, and economic development, will also be present, the ministry announced in a press statement.
The ministers will also discuss the discussions for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
“The dialogue will focus on various themes including strengthening the bilateral trade relationship between India and Canada, investment promotion and cooperation, green transition, including critical minerals discussion and new areas of cooperation, such as promoting B2B engagements,” the commerce and industry ministry stated. It also noted that at the most recent MDTI meeting in March 2022, both ministers had launched the CEPA negotiations with a possibility of a deal. to have an early progress trade deal or interim agreement. Seven rounds of negotiations have taken place since then.
As part of his efforts to boost commerce and investment, Goyal will also be in Toronto from May 9 to 10. Meetings with the CEOs of significant Canadian enterprises are among these engagements, as are CEO roundtables with CEOs from Canada and India.
