Dumping Duty on Visocse To Be lifted To Save Textile

In a letter to Sitharaman, MPs from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, All India Trinamool Congress, Indian National Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party complained that a proposed anti-dumping duty on VSF of $0.512/kg would increase the import price of viscose fibre and put a strain on small producers.

The appeal comes at a time when high-quality textiles are prioritised, particularly for exports. All of the nations that India is negotiating free trade deals with demand high criteria for their products.

“We received good yarn orders from China in December and January,” he continued. There is currently a substantial demand from Turkey and Europe. Turkey is now purchasing cotton yarn from India after the earthquake wrecked several of its spinning facilities there. The nations of Europe have additionally ranked ordering from us. The demand from Turkey and Europe now makes about 30% of all exports, up from 15% previously.”

India shipped 485 million kg of cotton yarn instead of 1,186 million kg over the same time period in the previous year, a 59% decrease in exports of cotton yarn.

In October 2022, cotton yarn exports decreased to 31 million kg, but in January, they surged to 68 million kg, the highest level since April 2022. Exports in February and March, according to industry experts, have been encouraging.

Vice President of the Gujarat Spinners’ Association (SAG), Jayesh Patel, stated: “All of the state’s spinning mills are operating at full capacity as a result of the consistent demand. In the value chain and in the market, the inventory is empty. We’ll see strong demand over the next days. India faces competition in the textile industry from nations like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which can make goods at low costs and have duty-free access to markets in the European Union and Canada.
