Country wise RMG export of Bangladesh, January-July 2023.

From January to July of 2023, our RMG export to the European Union (EU) has increased by 5.88% compare to the same period of 2022. During this period, our export to EU reached US$ 13.97 billion from US$ 13.19 billion in Jan-July 2022. Out of 27 countries in the EU region, six countries have shown significant negative year-on-year growth which are Germany, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Particularly, our export to Germany declined by 14.01% US$ 3.74 billion in Jan-Jul 2023 from US$ 4.35 billion in Jan-Jul 2022. On the other hand, export to Denmark, France, Italy  and Spain increased by 11.90%, 16.05%, 29.64% and 21.82% respectively. Following the footprint of described countries, our export to the rest of the countries in the EU region has shown positive growth.

In the mentioned period, export to U.S.A. declined by 9.14% to US$ 4.97 billion from US$ 5.47 billion in Jan-Jul 2022. However, our export to U.K. and Canada has grown by 14.11% and 7.74% respectively during the mentioned period. Bangladesh’s export to UK was US$ 3.10 billion while export to Canada reached US$ 900.57 million during the first seven months of 2023.

On the other hand, our export to the non-traditional markets have shown encouraging growth during January to July of 2023. During this period, our export to the non-traditional markets also increased remarkably by 29.66% to US$ 5 billion from US$ 3.87 billion. Currently, our clothing export share in the non-traditional markets stands at 17.91%.  Among the major non-traditional markets, Japan is our top destination which fetched US$ 984.19 million during the mentioned period with 48.69% growth compared to the same period of 2022. Export to other non-traditional markets such as Australia, India, South Korea, China, Brazil and Turkey are also on the rise. However, exports to UAE, and Chile have declined in contrast.  In fact, the Asia looks absolutely promising for us as we can clearly notice the upward trend of export to emerging markets like Japan, India, and South Korea.
