While demand was low in Mumbai, prices remained steady. Demand optimism was seen in Tiruppur, however increased fabric prices in Mumbai turned away consumers farther down the value chain.
While prices for cotton yarn remained stable in the Mumbai market, demand was weak.
A sharp increase in fabric prices last week caused the market trend to turn negative. Due to low consumer demand, the weaving sector has increased fabric prices by 7-8%, which discouraged purchasing. The softness extended to cotton yarn as well; prices for cotton yarn were steady in South India today despite conflicting indications of demand.
