MARKET OUTLOOK
• The Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption of the Ministry of Textiles estimates the crop size during the current season at 337.23 lakh bales (170 kg each), which is almost 8% more than the previous season.

• The government on Wednesday said it has approved the Quality Control Order for mandatory certification of cotton bales to augment the supply of good quality cotton to the textile industry.

• MADURAI: While the farmers in Madurai have welcomed the cotton harvest season with high hopes this year, the severe drop in cotton prices after two consecutive years of profitable rates in the market, has left the farmers in a fix.

North Zone:

Cotton traded steady tone across major spot market of north India on Thursday. Prices were quoted up to 20-25 / maund yesterday evening. Today weather clear. New crop – cotton traded at ready delivery – In Punjab,  Rs 6,400-6,500 a maund. In Haryana, it offered at Rs 6,325-6,475 a maund. while in Upper Rajasthan, quoted readty delivery at Rs 6,475-6,575 a maund.

Central Zone:

Cotton spot prices steady tone across west India market on Thursday. Sankar-6, new crop 29 mm (RD-75 & MIC-3.8), in Gujarat traded at Rs 62,000-62,500 a candy and 28.5mm (RD-74) quoted at Rs.61,000-61,500 a candy. V-797 trade at Rs 46,500-47,000 (12-15% trash condition) a candy for February / March delivery. While in Maharashtra, new crop good grade cotton (29mm) quoted at Rs 61,000-61,500 a candy.

South Zone:

Cotton spot price was steady tone across the major trading centers of south India.

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES
US Cotton Futures :

Cotton Closes Mixed, With Nearby Strength: Cotton futures posted 15 to 133 point gains in the front months on Wednesday, with deferred contracts down 4 to 38 points. The outside markets were pressure on the market, with crude oil down $2.41/barrel and the dollar up 37 points. The Seam reported 4,696 bales traded on 2/21 at an average price of 77.93, up 3.22 cents from the Friday prior. The Cotlook A index remained at 96.85 cents/lb on 2/21. The AWP for cotton is 74.05 cents. ICE certified stocks were 1,147 bales on 2/21, a consideration with upcoming March futures deliveries.

Mar 23 Cotton  closed at 82.25, up 133 points,

May 23 Cotton  closed at 81.88, up 35 points,

Jul 23 Cotton  closed at 82.52, up 15 points
