As the primary cotton-producing regions were devastated by flooding and heavy rains, Pakistan’s arrival of cotton continued to exhibit a downward trend. August through July of the current marketing year 2022–23 saw a 40.28 percent decrease in total arrival compared to the same time last year. In November 2022, the arrival decreased 37.13 percent year over year (YoY).

According to a report on cotton arrival during the new marketing year by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, there were 42,80,500 170 kg bales of cotton arriving between August and November 2022, which is a decrease of 28,87,618 bales from the 71,68,118 bales arriving during the same period last year (PCGA).

The arrival decreased by 37.13 percent, from 911,099 bales in November 2021 to 572,807 bales in November 2022. In Pakistan, November is the busiest month for arrivals.

The state-by-state arrival report also illustrates the effects of heavy rains and flooding in November and earlier months. Cotton arrival in the Sindh province, which was hardest hit by the flooding, was recorded at 17,65,333 bales from August to November 2022, a decrease of 49.40 percent from the 34,89,102 bales in the same time frame the previous season.

Punjab had a decrease in cotton arrival of 31.63 percent, with 25,15,167 bales arriving in the first four months of the current season compared to 36,79,016 bales during the same period last year.
