Jilin Chemical Fiber Co. Ltd (JLC) has announced a significant expansion of its sustainable Man-Made Cellulosic Fibre (MMCF) offerings, reinforcing its leadership in China’s green textile innovation sector.
The company is ramping up production of JIRECELL™, a viscose filament yarn made from 70% FSC-certified wood and 30% recycled cotton pulp (CIRCULOSE®), with an annual target capacity of 10,000 tonnes. JLC also has plans to double this capacity in the future to reach 20,000 tonnes per year. Furthermore, the firm is set to begin large-scale production of REBOOCEL, a staple fibre composed of 70% FSC-certified bamboo and 30% recycled bamboo sourced from used furniture. The projected annual output for REBOOCEL is 30,000 tonnes.
JLC also revealed its roadmap to increase the recycled content in JIRECELL™ to 50% by 2028, underlining its commitment to reducing dependence on virgin forest resources.
Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of Canopy, praised JLC’s move, noting, “Expanding Next Gen MMCF solutions is key to strengthening viscose and filament supply chains while easing the burden on global forests. JLC’s latest progress is a clear indication of growing momentum toward circular and sustainable production models.”
Jilin Chemical Fiber has been collaborating with Canopy since 2019 and earned a Dark Green Shirt rating in the 2024 Hot Button Report, which benchmarks MMCF manufacturers on their environmental sourcing practices. The company is rated low-risk for using fibre from Ancient and Endangered Forests and currently maintains a total MMCF production capacity of 210,000 tonnes per year.
