LANXESS Boosts Cold-Wash Cleaning Power with Oxone Compound

High-Performance Oxidizing Agent Supports Sustainable Cold-Wash Trend
LANXESS introduces Oxone Monopersulfate Compound for low-temperature detergents, delivering strong stain removal while enabling energy and CO₂ savings.
Specialty chemicals leader LANXESS is strengthening the shift toward energy-efficient home care solutions with Oxone Monopersulfate Compound, a high-performance oxidizing agent designed to elevate cold-wash detergent formulations. As consumers increasingly seek products that deliver both sustainability and strong cleaning results, Oxone offers detergent manufacturers a versatile ingredient that performs exceptionally well, even at temperatures as low as 20 °C.
Oxone’s powerful oxidation chemistry enables superior stain removal, tackling notoriously stubborn marks from wine, grape juice, coffee, and tea more effectively than sodium percarbonate (SPC) alone or SPC combined with tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED).
Highlighting the product’s dual advantage of performance and environmental benefit, Dr. Kelly Board, Technical Application Manager for Oxidation at LANXESS, said:
“With Oxone Monopersulfate Compound, we demonstrate how innovative chemistry can promote sustainability in cleaning applications – by combining strong performance with reduced energy requirements. By washing at low temperatures, consumers can save up to 27 kilograms of CO₂ per household annually compared to washing at 40 °C, while also reducing microfiber release. In short: Oxone opens up new possibilities for sustainable cleaning products.”
Efficient, Fast-Acting, and Formulation-Friendly
Oxone offers detergent manufacturers significant formulation flexibility. Its strong oxidation profile supports lower dosage levels while still delivering equal or superior cleaning performance, enabling more compact formats such as powders, pods, and tablets. After oxidation, the compound dissolves entirely within ten seconds, leaving behind only sulfate and potassium ions — an advantage for rapid-action product concepts.
It can also be tailored to support colorfastness, ensuring that garments stay vibrant even with repeated cold-water washing. With its chlorine-free and odorless composition, Oxone enhances user comfort and aligns with growing consumer demand for safer, more pleasant home-care solutions.
Transport, Safety, and Regulatory Advantages
Another key benefit is Oxone’s favorable Class 8 classification, compared with the stricter Class 5.1 oxidizer category. This makes transportation and storage significantly easier and reduces associated risks — an attractive feature for both manufacturers and supply-chain partners.
Applications Beyond Laundry Care
While Oxone is a standout performer in cold-wash detergents, its versatility extends well beyond laundry. The compound can be used in a wide range of household cleaning products, including:
- Automatic dishwashing detergents
- Appliance cleaners
- Toilet and drain cleaners
- Surface-cleaning formulations
Its broad application potential positions Oxone as a transformative ingredient for next-generation home-care solutions.
