In conjunction with the approaching National Handloom Day celebrations, the Telangana government will hold a week-long series of festivals beginning on August 7.
The Indian School of Business (ISB)’s Handloom and Textiles Department had a comprehensive review meeting on Tuesday, which was presided over by textiles minister KT Rama Rao. Senior officials from the textiles department as well as representatives from many other departments were present during the meeting.
The Minister instructed the textiles department at the meeting, highlighting the need for careful planning to be made. He gave the staff the task of creating well-thought-out plans for the organisation of a variety of initiatives throughout the State, with a special emphasis on those that were important to handloom weavers.
Rama Rao also looked into ways to streamline the “Chenetha Mithra” plan and expand the insurance policy for weavers. He emphasised the State government’s ongoing dedication to the welfare of weavers and the overall growth of the textile industry.
KTR advocated holding handloom week coupled with awareness campaigns to guarantee greater participation. He advocated for active participation from a range of groups, people, leaders, and admirers of handlooms.
The Minister reviewed major programmes, such as insurance coverage for weavers, and evaluated the status of welfare initiatives put in place by the Telangana government for the benefit of weavers. The textiles department’s prospective projects were a major topic of discussion at the conference. Weaver welfare and development projects’ funding allocation was discussed, with a focus on finding equitable distribution strategies.
In Hyderabad, he further directed authorities to set up special museums under the textiles department, emphasising the need for quick action. To help the sale of handloom products, he also suggested working together with the RTC and South-Central Railway. He encouraged the textiles department officials to do a thorough research, maybe in collaboration with prestigious institutes like the ISB, to assess the effectiveness, implementation, and results of the welfare and development schemes launched by the Telangana government.
