Mega Textile Park Will Help Boost The Sector

On March 17, the government declared that the first phase of the 4,445 crore PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) programme would see the establishment of seven mega textile parks. The announcement for the PM MITRA’s large-scale textile parks was made in October 2021. The programme, which aims to integrate all aspects of the textile value chain—from spinning and weaving to dyeing and printing to garment manufacturing—into a single ecosystem, is anticipated to bring in investments totaling 70,000 crore. According to Minister of Trade, Industry, and Textiles Piyush Goyal, it would also result in the creation of 20 lakh jobs.

Large textile parks covering at least 1,000 acres would be built in seven States as part of the PM MITRA scheme’s first phase, including Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka are the states that house the whole textile value chain, from fibre to fabric to finished goods. The parks will contain all necessary common amenities as well as plug-and-play manufacturing facilities. To house the complete textile value chain, from fibre to fabric to garments, major textile parks with a minimum area of 1,000 acres will be built under the first phase of the PM MITRA programme in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh. The parks will contain all necessary common amenities as well as plug-and-play manufacturing facilities.
