The groundwork has been laid for the construction of a textile park in Kalaburagi following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that PM MITRA Mega Textile Parks will be built in seven locations throughout the nation.
According to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the local ancillary industries will profit in addition to the textiles industry, which will grow in line with the 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) strategy.
On March 24, the PM will dedicate all seven PM MITRA Textile Parks at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, according to sources. Kalaburagi possesses the required infrastructure for the creation of the park. To build a thermal power plant, the government long ago bought 1,560 acres in the villages of Honna Kiranagi and Nadisinnur. Though, the It was suggested to create a solar park there, but that proposal was dropped.
Before submitting a request to the Union government but after deciding to create a textile park in Kalaburagi, 1,000 acres of the land were given to the Karnataka Industrial Development Board, the organisation in charge of creating the infrastructure facilities for the textile park.
There were concerns about the park’s development in Kalaburagi since the leaders of the ruling party were vying to have it built in their preferred neighbourhood or district. The former BS Yediyurappa government has forwarded a proposal to the Centre for the establishment of a textile park in Mysuru, Tumakuru, Raichur, Vijayapura and Kalaburagi.
The government of Basavaraj Bommai released a message on October 13, 2021 a plea for the establishment of parks in Kalaburagi, Tumakuru, and Vijayapura to the Union government. On March 8, 2022, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, secretary of the department of commerce and industry, requested in writing to the secretary of the union ministry of textiles that in-principle approval be given for the construction of PM MITRA parks at Kalaburagi and Vijayapura. The park had to be located in the district of the Kalaburagi MP.
