In a significant move toward advancing environmental transparency in fashion, Stanley/Stella, Europe’s leading brand in sustainable blank apparel, has partnered with Green Story, a global sustainability intelligence platform, to launch detailed environmental impact insights at the product level. This initiative includes the implementation of Digital Product Passports for ten key items from Stanley/Stella’s best-selling Iconics Collection, showcasing their cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave lifecycle impacts.
Each product webpage now presents verified, high-resolution impact data across four fabric variations—dyed, natural raw, heather, and eco-heather—empowering customers with full transparency on carbon emissions, water consumption, and energy use.
A Groundbreaking LCA Project
This development stems from a year-long Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) project conducted by Green Story’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Kannan Muthu, in collaboration with Stanley/Stella’s sustainability team. Unlike conventional estimations based on third-party averages, this project utilized extensive primary data sourced directly from 23 facilities, including 14 on-site audits in Bangladesh, covering all supply chain stages from raw materials to product disposal.
Dr. Muthu noted,
“This is one of the most detailed LCAs I’ve conducted. Every fiber, dyeing technique, and factory step was modeled to reflect real-world operations. Stanley/Stella’s openness and commitment to data accuracy are industry-leading.”
Verified Environmental Metrics
The insights gained from this initiative highlight the tangible impact of sustainable production decisions. For example:
-
The Creator 2.0 T-shirt in dyed standard color emits 2.37 kg CO₂e, equivalent to driving a car 9 km, and consumes only 0.02 m³ of water, enough for 11 people’s daily drinking needs.
-
Natural Raw and Eco-Heather variants of the same shirt showed 20% lower CO₂e emissions due to the absence or reduction of dyeing stages.
-
The Changer 2.0 crewneck demonstrated a 30% lower carbon footprint than heavier styles such as the Cruiser 2.0 hoodie.
Beyond Dashboards: A Smarter Sustainability Model
Stanley/Stella’s Head of Sustainability, Michel Hublet, commented:
“This initiative is more than just transparency. It’s a platform for data-driven product innovation and real carbon reduction. With Green Story, we’ve laid the groundwork for a smarter, more sustainable future.”
Green Story’s CEO, Akhil Sivanandan, added:
“This collaboration proves that merging technology with field-level sustainability work delivers powerful results. Our data isn’t just theoretical—it’s field-validated.”
Next Steps
Building on the success of this initiative, Stanley/Stella and Green Story are preparing to expand impact modeling across more product lines. The brand is also initiating decarbonization strategies for its entire supply chain, focusing on long-term emission reductions and sustainable production planning.
