The YKK Corporation reports that, as of fiscal year 2022, there are 31 YKK locations worldwide that have switched 100% of their electricity use to renewable energy, an increase of 20 locations from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2022.
YKK is working to accomplish the 10 SDGs related to the five themes of Climate Change, Material Resources, Water Resources, Chemical Management, and Respect People under the YKK Sustainability Vision 2050, a set of sustainability targets to attain climate neutrality by 2050. With regard to the topic of climate change, YKK is working to reduce GHG emissions within the organisation and throughout its supply chain in order to meet the 1.5°C objective that has been verified by SBTi. The company is aiming for a 50% reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 as well as a 30% reduction. by 2030 (from a baseline year of 2018) in Scope 3.
YKK is using more electricity from renewable sources as part of its efforts to reduce GHG emissions; as of FY2022, 31 of its locations throughout the world have finished the transition to buying 100% of their electricity from renewable energy sources. As part of its efforts to increase the use of electricity derived from renewable sources at the company, the company has been installing solar power facilities at each of its locations. This includes the introduction of solar power facilities using the PPA model* at the Min Hang and Lin Gang Plants of Shanghai YKK Zipper Co., Ltd.

Through our business, YKK continually strives to build and realise a sustainable society. The “Cycle of Goodness,” the idea of YKK founder Tadao Yoshida, is at the heart of all of our corporate endeavours. The adage “no one prospers without rendering benefit to others” perfectly captures the corporate philosophy of the YKK Group, which is to continue to prosper alongside society, clients, linked industries, and staff members. It is also extremely compatible with sustainability.
