Using Hitachi’s Powered by RE technology, which visualises the use of renewable energy, Asahi Kasei’s production facility for Dinamica® microfiber that resembles suede at its Nonwovens Plant in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, Japan, has obtained the first Certificate of Renewable Energy Usage. The accreditation, obtained on March 8, 2023, guarantees that Dinamica’s manufacturing plant is powered entirely by renewable energy.

In order to create a sustainable society, businesses are working to become carbon neutral along the whole value chain. This has increased demand for high-value goods and services that are produced with only renewable energy sources. Dinamica is a microfiber that resembles suede and has a 3-layer structure* made using a unique manufacturing technique developed by Asahi Kasei. Excellent texture and a flexible form make it a popular choice for many applications throughout the globe. including industrial materials, furniture, IT accessories, clothes, and interiors of automobiles. In an endeavour to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Asahi Kasei has taken proactive measures to reduce the CO2 emissions from the production of Dinamica®.

In order to achieve a decarbonized society, Hitachi created Powered by RE in 2021 as a way to visualise how much renewable energy is used at specific facilities and services. In order to support the continued growth of the use of renewable energy, Hitachi established the Powered by RE Certification Committee in 2022. This general incorporated association was founded in partnership with Art & Ecology, Inc. and certifies 100% renewable energy use at every production line, piece of equipment, and service. The Powered by RE Certification Committee certifies electricity use through the Certificate of Renewable Energy Use. 100% of the energy used in each production line, facility, and service is renewable. In order to prove that all of the power used at Dinamica’s production facility at the Nonwovens Plant is generated by renewable energy, the certification was obtained based on data from the energy management system of that facility. Because of this certification, Asahi Kasei is able to tell its consumers that by providing goods from approved production lines, it is helping to combat global warming.

Asahi Kasei is concentrating on projects including the utilisation of biomass raw materials, recycled raw materials, renewable energy, etc. in an effort to realise a carbon neutral and sustainable society from the perspective of “Care for Earth.” The Asahi Kasei Group keeps up with societal standards. Be a Trailblazer is the topic of the company’s medium-term management strategy for the fiscal year 2024, which focuses on the provision of products and services with such characteristics to the company, its customers, and its stakeholders. Hitachi continues to offer digital solutions, including Powered by RE, to support the realisation of a decarbonized society as part of its Social Innovation Business, which uses data and technology to build a sustainable society. Hitachi will also help businesses embrace renewable energy by widely pushing certification of renewable energy use through the Powered by RE Certification Committee.
