Mumbai — October 18, 2023: For the third consecutive year ReCircle, a leading resource recovery clean-tech innovator, announces Mumbai’s largest Diwali Waste Collection Drive. The aim is to collect more than 20,000 kgs of waste (equivalent to 714,286 chips packets) diverting it from landfills and oceans back into the economy, thus ensuring complete traceability and transparency.

The collected materials including paper, plastic, metal, glass, e-waste, apparels/ footwear and utensils will be collected and sent to ReCircle’s Material Recovery Facility in Dahisar, Mumbai. The waste is then segregated by ReCircle’s informal waste workers or Safai Saathis where it is cleaned, processed and bailed. This processed waste is then sent out to recyclers who convert it into plastic granules. The granules are then converted to new products.

Formed in partnership with Dabur India Limited and Institute of Development Management, all the proceeds from individual households, societies, schools, colleges and offices #PuranaSamaan will be donated to ReCircle’s partner NGO for the last three years, St. Catherine School of Siena and Orphanage. The non-profit aims to provide a safe space for underprivileged children and empower them through education and rehabilitation-based projects.

“This year our mission is even more ambitious — to divert a staggering 20,000 Kgs of waste away from landfills and our water bodies. We believe in the power of community towards driving a circular economy which is why every bit counts, and your participation can make a significant impact in creating a cleaner Mumbai. With an increasingly conscious consumer base we know that we can drive meaningful change one waste collection drive at a time”, said Gurashish Singh Sahni — Co-Founder & COO — ReCircle.

“Dabur has been at the forefront of driving interventions that leverage community collaboration to end Plastic Pollution. Moving forward on this mission, we are thrilled to partner with ReCircle for this ambitious Diwali waste collection drive in Mumbai and contribute to making the city cleaner and greener. Together, let’s make a real difference by promoting a cleaner, healthier environment, and move towards a more sustainable future”, said Dabur India Limited CSR Head — Byas Anand.

The previous year, ReCircle collected more than 10,000 kgs of waste across over 60+ pin codes across Mumbai. The contribution didn’t only illuminate Diwali for children in need but also helped light up the lives of ReCircle’s informal waste workers or Safai Saathis.

This year the Diwali waste collection drive aims for over 1000 registrations across the city of Mumbai — from Dahisar to Churchgate. The dates for this years’ drive are taking place on the weekend before Diwali.
