The Wool Research Association (WRA) hosted a significant delegation of 40 Australian wool growers and producers on January 28, 2025, marking a potential turning point in Indo-Australian wool industry relations. The delegation, representing the wool production sector of Victoria and New South Wales, was led by Fox & Lillie, Processors, Australia.
The primary objective of the visit was to explore avenues for business collaboration with Indian partners and to leverage WRA’s expertise in research and development, technological advancements, and testing facilities. The Australian delegation expressed a keen interest in shifting their support from another Australian organization, which they felt had not provided adequate returns, to WRA. Several wool growers commented that directing royalty payments to WRA, an organization actively involved in major research, product development, and testing related to wool, would be far more advantageous.
The visit served as a platform for discussions centred on strengthening trade relations and stimulating growth within the wool industry of both nations. This engagement is viewed as a crucial step in bolstering Indo-Australian cooperation in the wool sector and aligns with the “Make in India” initiative while adhering to international standards. WRA’s role in facilitating this interaction underscores India’s growing prominence as a centre for textile research and innovation. The association expressed pride in hosting the delegation and contributing to the advancement of the wool industry on a global scale.
