State Government Will Announce Policy To Boost Exports

Published: April 12, 2023

The Gujarati government has started a process to develop a strategy to increase exports from the state. The state policy, which will incorporate elements of the recently unveiled Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) of the Union government, would encourage, among other things, goods and products with an export potential.

Soon, a high-level committee led by the chief secretary will oversee the operation of the state-level export promotion authority. In a similar manner, committees for export promotion would be established in each of Gujarat’s districts.

“An action plan will be created to increase the state’s exports. Also, each area will have a unique action plan for increasing exports. Each district’s potential for exports will be determined, and the state government is thinking about the best incentives for goods and products with export potential, “Balvantsinh Rajput, state minister for industries, remarked.

The minister further stated that the trade promotion strategy of the state government would be modelled after that of the federal government. Rajput stated that incentives from both the state and the federal governments will be offered in an effort to increase exports.

By establishing district export promotion committees and creating district export action plans for each district, the FT of the Union government has placed emphasis on building districts as export hubs. In accordance with Union government policy, all district-level export action plans must be monitored online and state-level export promotion committees must be established in all Union territories and States.

This dispersed Chapter 3 of the FTP, 2023, which envisions districts as export hubs, shifts the focus to district-led export growth for self-sufficiency and self-reliance by giving districts’ goods and services a worldwide platform.

Petroleum products, organic and inorganic chemicals, gems and jewellery, engineering products, and similar items are among Gujarat’s top exports.

All 33 of Gujarat’s districts have been found to have export-ready goods and services, including industrial and agricultural goods, according to government sources. This is part of the “Districts as Export Hubs Initiative” (DEH).
