The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended that an anti-dumping duty be placed on imports of viscose staple fibre (VSF), which is used in ready-to-wear, home, and industrial textiles. The Association of Man-made Fibre Industry of India has asked the finance ministry to accept this recommendation.

On December 19, the DGTR recommended the duty due to widespread dumping at rates below cost by companies with Chinese financial support.

The group claimed there has been a fivefold increase in monthly VSF imports entering India at extortionate pricing after the previous tariff expired in August 2021.

“VSF can be exported to India duty-free thanks to FTAs between India and ASEAN countries. The organisation has informed the finance minister that a company sponsored by China has established sizable VSF plants in Indonesia in an effort to flood the Indian market by abusing the FTA “In a letter to the finance ministry, it was said.
