The March 2026 edition of The ICAC Recorder, a free publication, presents Special Issue (Part II) of the 15th ALIDA Meeting, outlining developments in innovations, technologies, and collaboration within the cotton sector in Latin America.

In the editorial, ICAC Chief Scientist Dr. Keshav Kranthi highlights the region’s role as the origin of two species responsible for nearly all global cotton production. He notes the region’s position in combining heritage, sustainability, and innovation.

The issue includes peer-reviewed articles from Session 4 of the ALIDA Meeting, covering various aspects of the cotton value chain. Topics addressed include advancements in traceability, fibre quality, and certification systems, along with the impact of the FAO-supported +Cotton Project on capacity building and public policy.

The publication also examines technological developments in crop management, harvesting, and post-harvest systems. It highlights the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 tools such as drones, sensors, and digital platforms.

In addition, the issue features country reports from major cotton-producing nations across Latin America, providing an overview of regional developments.

The publication outlines the increasing role of traceability and sustainability in global cotton markets, in response to regulatory requirements and changing consumer expectations. It also notes the need for innovation to consider local conditions, particularly in smallholder systems.

The contributions included in the issue reflect ongoing developments across the cotton sector in Latin America and their relevance to the global industry.
