Hisense, a global consumer electronics and home appliances company, has opened its first manufacturing facility in India through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited. The plant is located at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, within Epack Durable Limited’s industrial park.

The Hisense (EMTPL) manufacturing unit occupies a 10-acre campus adjacent to EDL’s existing ODM manufacturing facility. Built with an investment exceeding USD 30 million, the plant forms part of Hisense’s localisation strategy for India and is scheduled to begin commercial production from February 2026. Once fully operational, it will manufacture Room Air Conditioners exclusively for Hisense India and will account for 100% of the brand’s RAC production in the country.

Pilot production has already started, and the facility is being developed in phases. Phase 1 will focus on Room Air Conditioners and will produce Hisense’s global AC range, including the F-Series, Eco Series, Intelli Perla Series, and the upcoming Intelli Pro Series. The installed capacity for Phase 1 is 0.75 million RAC units per year.

Phase 2 is planned to begin in Q2 FY27 and will add washing machine production, covering both top-load and front-load models. Phase 3, scheduled for Q3 FY27, will extend operations to LED television manufacturing.

The plant currently employs around 500 people and is projected to create employment for nearly 1,500 professionals over the next 12 to 24 months. Recruitment is underway across supply chain, finance, administration, and skilled manufacturing functions.

The facility is intended to serve both domestic and export markets, enabling faster distribution and reducing reliance on imports. Sri City is positioned as an integrated manufacturing SEZ with the presence of global and Indian companies in electronics, automotive, and industrial sectors.

Commenting on the inauguration, Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, said “The new facility represents a pivotal step in Hisense’s evolution in India. Sri City allows us to strengthen our local production capabilities while aligning closely with the Make in India mission. This plant enables us to deepen control over quality, cost, and supply chains, while creating a strong platform to scale operations and customize products for Indian consumers. It reinforces our intent to build a locally rooted, manufacturing-led organisation in India.”

Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO at Epack Durable, said “We at Epack Durable are proud to have partnered with Hisense India on its first manufacturing venture in India. This facility is a strong embodiment of the collaboration between Hisense’s technology and Epack Durable’s technical expertise in consumer durables. Adhering to global manufacturing standards, this facility will showcase India’s production capabilities and strengthen the country’s position as a preferred partner for global cos planning long-term expansion.”

Before this investment, Hisense India operated through an import-led and partner-supported manufacturing model. The Sri City plant marks the company’s move toward a fully integrated local manufacturing setup, forming the base for future expansion based on market conditions and business performance.
