Textiles Ministry engages with additional states to widen manufacturing base and support implementation of the PLI scheme.
The Ministry of Textiles is pursuing efforts to broaden India's textile manufacturing footprint beyond traditional production centres such as Tirupur and Surat.
According to an official, discussions are underway with the governments of Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Jharkhand to facilitate the development of textile manufacturing in these states.
The government is also focusing on attracting additional investments while ensuring effective implementation of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles.
An official stated that the textile sector remains one of the country's largest employment generators, providing direct employment to more than 45 million people.
Currently, textile manufacturing in India is largely concentrated in Tirupur, Surat, Panipat and Ludhiana.
With the rollout of the third round of the PLI scheme, the Ministry of Textiles has established a dedicated unit that will directly coordinate with companies and state governments.
Explaining the approach, the official said, “The idea is to remain engaged...(and) address any issues on the ground,” adding, “We have contacted states where companies are setting up production facilities to ensure their smooth implementation.”
