Global Commodity Conclave 2026 to Focus on India’s Role in Global Commodity Markets

Three-day Mumbai conclave to bring together policymakers, exchanges, industry leaders and investors to discuss commodity derivatives, price discovery and risk management.
The Commodity Markets Industry, with the support of MCX, will host the Global Commodity Conclave 2026 from August 12–14, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event is designed as a platform to discuss the development of India's commodity markets and the convergence between physical and financial markets.
Held under the theme "Convergence of Physical and Financial Markets," the conclave will bring together policymakers, global exchanges, market infrastructure institutions, corporates, institutional investors, SMEs, financial institutions and retail traders.
Focus on Commodity Price Discovery
The event will examine India's evolving commodity market landscape and the role of domestic derivative markets in supporting price discovery and risk management. Discussions will centre around the concept of "Price in India, Hedge in India," with sessions covering agriculture, metals and energy markets.
Specialised sessions for manufacturing MSMEs will address market dynamics in secondary aluminium, copper scrap and zinc.
Commodity Derivatives as an Investment Class
The conclave will also explore the increasing role of commodity derivatives within diversified investment portfolios. Organisers noted that commodities are attracting attention as investors seek protection against inflation, market volatility and macroeconomic uncertainty.
Topics will include advances in market infrastructure, regulatory oversight, technology adoption, institutional participation and retail investor engagement.
"India’s commodity markets are witnessing a powerful convergence of expanding retail participation and a deeper institutional conviction. This momentum is reshaping the markets into more inclusive engines of wealth creation."
— Ajay Garg, Alternate President, Commodity & Capital Market Participants Association of India (CPAI)
Market Development and Institutional Participation
According to the organisers, India's commodity derivatives market is entering a new phase of development supported by expanding retail participation and growing institutional involvement through Mutual Funds, Wealth Management firms and Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).
The conclave will examine how increasing liquidity, price discovery and market depth can contribute to India's position in global commodity markets.
"India is evolving from a major gold consumer market into an investment market. Now MCX is positioned to serve as the premier gateway for bullion financialisation."
— Surendra Mehta, National Secretary, India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA)
Sessions on Commodity Price Risk Management
Another key focus area will be commodity price risk management. The programme will discuss how geopolitical developments, climate events, supply chain disruptions and changing demand patterns are influencing commodity prices and increasing the need for structured hedging strategies.
“Price volatility is a given constant. MSMEs have to adopt and evolve to address price risk. Price benchmarking and hedging are a must have tools not only to sustain growth but also to be profitable. Global Commodity Conclave brings perfect combination of panels and speakers who would offer guidance on the same.”
— Sushil Kothari, President, Bharat Metal Exchange (BME)
Electricity Derivatives and Power Markets
The conclave will also include discussions on electricity derivatives and their role in supporting India's evolving power sector through improved price discovery and risk management.
"The Global Commodities Conclave will be a premier platform to exchange insights, foster collaboration and shape the future of the commodity ecosystem. MCX deserves real credit for its pioneering role in building this market — through sustained capacity building, deep stakeholder engagement, and growing awareness across the energy sector, including power value chain. The rising liquidity and open interest in its contracts are laying the groundwork for a deeper, more transparent, and truly efficient electricity market ecosystem in India. We look forward to continuing this journey with MCX — driving capacity building and creating awareness among our members and stakeholders across the power sector."
— Karan Dhaul, Director, Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI)
Dedicated Segment for Retail Participants
The final day of the conclave will feature sessions focused on retail participants, covering topics including retail algorithmic trading, commodity options strategies and trend-following approaches in commodity markets.
Industry Perspective
“The flagship event, Global Commodity Conclave 2026, will serve as a platform to create greater awareness about the vital role of commodity markets in the economy. Our focus is to encourage wider adoption of commodities for hedging price risk and to promote commodity as a prudent investment avenue, thereby strengthening India's commodity market ecosystem. The conclave will also provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders from different sectors of the economy to come together and discuss the future of commodity and financial markets on such a large scale for the first time. Such collaborative efforts will contribute to building a stronger economy and support the vision of a Viksit Bharat.”
