Maharashtra Government Highlights Investment and Employment Potential
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the commencement of construction marks a step towards developing world-class infrastructure for jewellery manufacturing, attracting investment and generating employment.
He stated that the project has an estimated investment potential of ₹50,000 crore and could create around one lakh direct and indirect jobs.
Fadnavis also highlighted the potential for India’s expanding global trade partnerships and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to create opportunities for exports, market access and international collaboration. He said the Maharashtra government would support the sector through policies, infrastructure and a business-friendly environment.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described the park as an extension of Maharashtra’s established gem and jewellery industry, which includes Zaveri Bazaar, SEEPZ and Bharat Diamond Bourse.
He said the project would bring manufacturing, skilled artisans, design, technology and innovation together. Shinde also highlighted skill development as a means of creating opportunities for young people and helping manufacturers compete in international markets.
Industry Leaders Emphasise Manufacturing and Skills
Maharashtra Minister for Forests Ganesh Naik said the park would strengthen the state’s position in the global gems and jewellery industry by creating opportunities for investment, employment and sectoral growth.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said the project would bring manufacturers, artisans and allied services together, creating opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), encouraging investment and strengthening jewellery manufacturing capabilities.
Bhansali also pointed to the support available under the Maharashtra Gems and Jewellery Policy 2025. He said the park could help businesses expand, promote Indian jewellery brands and improve their competitiveness in global markets.
Policy Incentives and Investment Interest
The project will benefit from Maharashtra government policy support for the gem and jewellery sector. Incentives outlined for eligible units include:
- Exemptions from stamp duty and MIDC transfer fees.
- A 50% SGST waiver for the specified eligibility period.
- Electricity duty exemptions.
- Interest subsidies on term loans for MSMEs.
- Electricity tariff support for eligible lab-grown diamond units, subject to applicable conditions.
A single-window clearance mechanism under the MAITRI policy is intended to simplify approvals and improve the ease of doing business.
More than 70 companies have expressed interest in investing in the park, according to the project announcement. The response indicates interest from industry participants in establishing manufacturing operations within the proposed integrated facility.
The Maharashtra Gems and Jewellery Policy 2025 provides additional sector-specific support intended to strengthen the investment proposition. The park is expected to support business expansion, create opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers, and develop ancillary services connected to jewellery manufacturing.
GJEPC Invites Industry Participation
With construction commencing, GJEPC has invited manufacturers, jewellery businesses and other industry stakeholders to explore opportunities to establish units at India Jewellery Park Mumbai.
The development is intended to serve as a shared industry asset, bringing manufacturing and related services together while supporting the growth of India’s jewellery manufacturing sector and its global competitiveness.
