Union Textiles Minister discusses revival of handmade crafts at yarn collection launch event in New Delhi
Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh stated that the revival of crochet and hand knitting in India could contribute to employment generation, support women artisans, and strengthen the country’s creative economy.
The minister made the remarks during the unveiling of the ‘Premium Hand Knitting Yarns Collection 2026’ by Ganga Acrowools Limited at Le Méridien New Delhi. The event was organised in collaboration with Heartbeats Premium Yarns.
Event brings together stakeholders from knitting and handmade craft sectors
The programme included participation from distributors, retailers, designers, entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and artisan communities connected to the knitting and crochet industry.
According to the event organisers, crochet and hand knitting are witnessing renewed interest in India due to Gen Z creators, slow-fashion trends, and increasing demand for handmade products.
Giriraj Singh said the revival of traditional crafts has the potential to generate large-scale employment opportunities and support artisan-led livelihoods.

The exhibition highlighted the growing use of knitting and crochet beyond traditional winter wear applications. Product categories on display included home décor, boutique fashion, gifting products, and designer collaborations.
The event also featured “intelligent yarns” designed to create self-forming patterns, textures, and colour designs. Organisers stated that these yarns are intended to make advanced craftsmanship more accessible to creators.
