Gartex Texprocess India to Launch Kolkata Edition in January 2027

New edition will expand the textile technology exhibition’s presence to Eastern India, connecting manufacturers with machinery, fabrics and industry solutions
Gartex Texprocess India will hold its Kolkata edition from 22–24 January 2027 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata, marking its expansion into Eastern India. Organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, the event will extend the exhibition’s existing presence in Delhi and Mumbai to a third annual edition, targeting the region’s textile and garment manufacturing sector.
Kolkata Edition Expands the Exhibition’s Regional Reach
The launch comes as manufacturers across Eastern India look towards modernisation, advanced machinery, technology adoption and capacity expansion. West Bengal has a long-established textile base spanning handloom weaving, jute, hosiery and garment manufacturing.
Weaving and craft clusters such as Fulia, Santipur, Bishnupur and Murshidabad continue to reflect the state’s textile heritage. Kolkata and surrounding districts are also recognised for their hosiery industry, which has developed over more than a century. The city is a centre for ethnic wear, kidswear, zari and embroidery, while the Hooghly belt remains a major hub for jute production.
The jute industry is diversifying into products such as bags, home textiles, geotextiles and composites. Meanwhile, the growth of garment manufacturing is increasing demand for woven fabrics. The state has also been encouraging investment in powerloom and processing facilities, including the integrated textile park at Ashoknagar–Banipur.
Building on Editions in Delhi and Mumbai
Since its inception, Gartex Texprocess India has developed into a platform for India’s garment and textile manufacturing sector, bringing together manufacturers, fabric suppliers, technology providers and buyers.
The Kolkata edition will extend the exhibition’s geographical presence across North, West and East India, taking its annual calendar to three editions. It is intended to connect Eastern India’s manufacturing community with machinery and technology providers from India and international markets.
For exhibitors, the new location offers access to a market where some have had limited physical presence. Regional companies will have an opportunity to present their capabilities to a wider national audience, while visitors will be able to explore machinery, technology, fabrics, trims and related solutions closer to their markets.
Access to Eastern India and Neighbouring Markets
Kolkata’s location also provides access to Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and the North-East. The wider region includes Bhagalpur’s silk industry, emerging garment units in Bihar, new apparel and technical textile investments in Odisha, and the handloom and Muga and Eri silk economy of the North-East.
Connectivity with neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, adds a cross-border dimension for businesses interested in fabrics, trims and textile technology.
Organisers Outline Expansion Plans
Commenting on the expansion, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, said: “Over nearly a decade, Gartex Texprocess India has evolved alongside India’s textile and garment manufacturing industry, building strong industry engagement through our editions in Delhi and Mumbai. Our expansion to Kolkata is a natural next step in that journey. Eastern India combines a remarkable textile and handloom heritage with an increasingly ambitious manufacturing community that is looking towards technology, modernisation and new markets. We want Gartex Texprocess India to be part of that future growth, connecting the strengths of this region with technology providers, manufacturers and buyers from across India and international markets.”
Mr Gaurav Juneja, Director, MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, added: “Eastern India’s textile and garment industry presents significant opportunities, particularly as manufacturers look towards capacity expansion, modernisation and wider market access. Gartex Texprocess India in Kolkata will provide the industry with a platform where manufacturers and buyers can see, compare and source technologies and solutions in one place. For exhibitors, it opens access to a new and important market, while for visitors it brings a comprehensive textile technology platform closer to their doorstep. Kolkata is a market we have been evaluating closely, and we believe the time is right to be here.”
Machinery and Technology Segments

The Kolkata edition is expected to feature companies across the textile and garment manufacturing value chain, with an emphasis on sectors relevant to Eastern India. These include:
- Circular knitting, hosiery and knitwear machinery
- Spinning, sewing, embroidery and garment-making technology
- Digital textile printing, dyeing and finishing equipment
- Power looms, weaving, sizing and woven fabric processing
- Jute processing technology and equipment for diversified jute products
