EU Imposes Definitive Anti-Dumping Duties on PET Spunbond Imports from China

EDANA welcomes the European Commission’s decision to impose duties ranging from 39.8% to 48.1% for five years, citing the need to address unfair trade practices and protect European production.

The European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of PET spunbond originating in China, following provisional measures introduced on 12 May 2026. Published on 30 October 2026, the regulation came into effect on 31 October 2026 and will remain applicable for five years. The duties range from 39.8% to 48.1%, with EDANA welcoming the decision as a measure to restore fair competition in the European market.

European Commission Confirms Definitive Measures

The Commission's final decision found that Chinese PET spunbond imports increased significantly during the period examined and were sold at unfairly low prices, causing substantial harm to the EU PET spunbond industry.

It also concluded that imposing anti-dumping measures was in the interest of the European Union. The definitive duties are intended to help restore a level playing field and safeguard industrial capacity in Europe.

EDANA Welcomes the Decision

Jacques Prigneaux, Market Analysis & Economic Affairs Director at EDANA, commented:

“We welcome the Commission’s decision to impose definitive anti-dumping measures. The adoption of definitive anti-dumping duties sends an important signal that the Commission is determined to effectively address unfair trade practices on the EU market. Restoring fair competition is essential not only for safeguarding EU production, but also for supporting the investments in innovation, sustainability and employment that are required to meet the EU’s strategic industrial ambitions.”

EDANA to Monitor Implementation

With the measures entering into force, EDANA will continue working with EU and national customs authorities to monitor their application.

The association also thanked the European Commission for its investigation and its commitment to protecting fair market conditions in the European Union.
