New enamel cast iron Dutch Oven introduces a purple ombré finish as Cumin Co. begins its ‘Pratha’ festive campaign
Cumin Co. has introduced ‘Shyamal’, a limited-edition enamel cast iron Dutch Oven named after the Sanskrit word Shyamal (श्यामल). The colour concept draws inspiration from the deep purple-blue shades of twilight, imagery associated with Lord Krishna and the history of Tyrian purple, a colour once associated with royalty.
The Shyamal Dutch Oven features a purple ombré enamel finish developed through Cumin Co.’s multi-layer enamel process. The company said achieving this finish on enamel cast iron presents challenges because variations in firing temperature or mineral composition can affect the final colour. The product is completed with a subtle gold knob.
“Some products are designed to be useful. Others are designed to be remembered,” said Niharika Joshi, Co-Founder, Cumin Co. “With Shyamal, we wanted to create something that felt rooted in Indian culture while challenging the conventions of what cookware can look like. It draws inspiration from the colours of dusk, celebration, and the belief that everyday objects can become family heirlooms.
Enamel Cast Iron Technology
The Shyamal Dutch Oven follows the design and functionality approach of Cumin Co.’s enamel cast iron collection. It is made using the brand’s patented Enviromax™ enamel technology, which the company says provides heat retention and even cooking.
According to Cumin Co., the cookware is free from PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, lead and cadmium. Its enamel surface is non-reactive, requires no seasoning and is designed for both everyday cooking and special occasions.
Launch Ahead of Raksha Bandhan
The Shyamal Dutch Oven is being launched ahead of Raksha Bandhan and is positioned by Cumin Co. as a product intended to remain relevant beyond the festive season. The company presents it as an item that can be used for family recipes, placed on festive tables, gifted or passed between generations.
The launch also marks the beginning of ‘Pratha’, Cumin Co.’s festive campaign centred on rituals, memories and heirlooms associated with Indian homes.
The campaign will be presented in three chapters: Saanjha during Raksha Bandhan, Ishtha through Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri, and Utsav during the Diwali season. The campaign will explore traditions and the objects associated with them.
The limited-edition Shyamal Dutch Oven will be available for a limited time.
